Mysterious Mizusashi (Water Jar) - Sometsuke (Blue and White Porcelain)
A mizusashi (freshwater container) used in tea ceremony. The underside of the lid reads Made in the Da Ming Wanli period. However, it is likely a reproduction, and the exact era is unknown. What's interesting is the underglaze blue decoration. It looks like an unfinished piece from the manufacturing process. Was it an oversight or intentional? Or perhaps it's a piece before the colors were layered? A rare item found on my mother's tea ceremony shelf. I believe it was likely purchased at an antique market. Not only the figures but also the background appear unfinished. Please enjoy by looking closely at the images.
